Personal Information
- Account Information: When you register for an account, we collect your email address, name, and password (stored in encrypted form).
- Subscription Information: If you purchase a subscription, we process payment information through our payment processor, PayFast. We do not store complete payment details on our servers.
- Writing Content: We collect and store the writing content you create using Raven. All writing content is end-to-end encrypted, which means we cannot read, access, or view your writing at any time. Only you, the author, have the encryption keys needed to view your work.
- Usage Data: Information about how you use the application, including session duration, word count, and feature usage.
Automatic Data Collection
- Technical Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device information.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our application and hold certain information.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain our service
- To process subscriptions and payments
- To notify you about changes to our service
- To provide customer support
- To monitor usage of our service
- To protect against fraudulent, unauthorised, or illegal activity
Your Ownership of Content
Your writing remains yours. We want to be crystal clear about this: anything you write using Raven remains your intellectual property and is copyrighted by you as the author. Raven takes no ownership over your writing content. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise distribute your writing to third parties. Furthermore, because all your writing is encrypted, we cannot and do not read, review, or access your content at any time.
Data Storage and Security
We store your data on secure cloud servers. All writing content is encrypted using end-to-end encryption technology, which means that only you can access your writing. We do not have the technical capability to read, access, or view your writing content at any time. While we implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Lost Writing Due to Goals: As part of Raven's functionality, writing may be intentionally lost if you do not meet writing goals you set. By using Raven, you acknowledge that any writing lost due to unmet goals is not retrievable and will not be recoverable, even upon request. This is a deliberate feature of the service and not considered a data loss incident.
Server Issues: While we maintain regular backups and take reasonable precautions to prevent data loss, we recommend that you regularly download and back up your writing. We are not liable for writing lost due to server issues, technical failures, or other issues beyond our reasonable control.
Your Data Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request that we correct any inaccurate personal information
- Request that we delete your personal information
- Withdraw consent where we process data based on consent
- Request a copy of your writing content
- Request complete deletion of all your user records and writing from our servers and cloud storage

We are building Raven with writers in mind. If you have any privacy or data concerns, we are happy to hear them and generally will be happy to adjust how Raven works to ensure writers feel safe, protected and in full control of their work. Please reach out to us with any suggestions or concerns.
