Introduction
Welcome to the murder. Raven ("we", "our", or "us") is a writing application that values your privacy as much as we value your commitment to writing. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our writing application.

Information We Collect
Personal Information
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your email address, name, and password (stored in encrypted form).
- Subscription Information: If you purchase a subscription, we process payment information through our payment processor, PayFast. We do not store complete payment details on our servers.
- Writing Content: We collect and store the writing content you create using Raven. All writing content is end-to-end encrypted; we cannot read, access, or view your writing at any time. Only you have the encryption keys.
- Usage Data: Information about how you use the application, including session duration, word count, feature usage, pages visited, time spent on each page, and discrete in-app actions such as opening or creating drafts. This data is collected using our own first-party analytics system and is tied to your account where you are logged in, or to an anonymous session identifier where you are not. It is used solely for product improvement and is never sold or shared with third parties.
Automatic Data Collection
- Technical Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device information.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our application and hold certain information, including authentication tokens and session identifiers.
- Website Behaviour: On our marketing website (writewithraven.com), we collect anonymised behavioural data including page views, scroll depth, and interactions with key page elements. This data is used to understand how visitors engage with our marketing content and is not linked to your Raven account.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain our service
- To process subscriptions and payments
- To notify you about changes to our service
- To provide customer support
- To monitor usage of our service
- To protect against fraudulent, unauthorised, or illegal activity
Your Ownership of Content
Your writing remains yours. Anything you write using Raven remains your intellectual property and is copyrighted by you as the author. Raven takes no ownership over your writing content. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise distribute your writing to third parties. Because all your writing is encrypted, we cannot and do not read, review, or access your content at any time.
Data Storage and Security
We store your data on secure cloud servers. All writing content is encrypted using end-to-end encryption, which means that only you can access your writing. We do not have the technical capability to read, access, or view your writing content at any time. While we implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Lost Writing Due to Goals: As part of Raven's functionality, writing may be intentionally lost if you do not meet writing goals you set. By using Raven, you acknowledge that any writing lost due to unmet goals is not retrievable and will not be recoverable, even upon request. This is a deliberate feature of the service and not considered a data loss incident.
Server Issues: While we maintain regular backups and take reasonable precautions to prevent data loss, we recommend that you regularly download and back up your writing. We are not liable for writing lost due to server issues, technical failures, or other issues beyond our reasonable control.
Your Data Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request that we correct any inaccurate personal information
- Request that we delete your personal information
- Withdraw consent where we process data based on consent
- Request a copy of your writing content
- Request complete deletion of all your user records and writing from our servers and cloud storage

We are building Raven with writers in mind. If you have any privacy or data concerns, we are happy to hear them and will generally be happy to adjust how Raven works to ensure writers feel safe, protected, and in full control of their work. Please reach out.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
